USING PINTEREST to create A MINIMAL wardrobe
One of my favorite sites for creating inspiration boards will forever be Pinterest. I have created my Pinterest to reflect my minimalist lifestyle and fashion. Each board has a significant importance, and helps me carryout my interests in a streamline way. This is the perfect avenue if you are struggling with your personal style and don’t know where to start. On my channel I created a few looks using Pinterest inspiration.
Forming my Personal Style
I’ve spoken about the usability of the app a few times on my Youtube channel. I’d define Pinterest as multiple mood boards filled with your favorite things. It helps you identify and pinpoint items that you are drawn to. This make shopping for various things easier and stress-free. Sometimes on a trip to the store, you’re not quite sure of your options and your preferences. If you have a mood board dedicated to fashion and spend the time to add personalized pins, you can simplify the process. The app also shows you related items so you can curate your style. When browsing for a specific look, it can also introduce you to other genres of fashion you wouldn’t otherwise have known. Linked below is a video discussing how I found my style.
Identifying Your Favorites
Your Pinterest boards are a reflection of your most coveted pieces. Let me explain. When assessing my fashion board, there is a common theme in my most recent pins. There is a recurrence of white bottoms, black purses and long sweaters. These are pieces specifically relevant when planning for Autumn. You could also coordinate a capsule wardrobe just by analyzing your pins. Your most frequented pins show how to style those favorite pieces and which items will benefit you cost per wear wise. This method has identified some of my closet staples from 3 years ago, most of them I still use today.
Minimal Interior Design
Although my main use of the app is curating fashion inspiration, it has a multitude of other uses. When it comes to home decor, Pinterest helped me put a name to the type of interior style I desire. This would be ideal for those moving into a new place, rearranging their space or simple interior decorating aspiration. Instead of just simple and neutral, I have specified it down to organic modern/Wabi-Sabi. The app has helped me identify keywords and key pieces that fit my personal design aesthetic. Just from related pins alone, I am able to discover new takes on the classic minimal decorating style.
An Unorthodox Method
Recently i’ve been using Pinterest to pivot from shopping urges. Let me explain. When I have the desire to shop, I start cultivating and pinning fashion content. The content reflects whatever I feel the need to purchase in the moment. Maybe it’s the distractibility of the application that competes with my desire to shop. I may also be supplementing the need for something new with the discovery of new fashion pins. It might also be that searching and discovering pins has tired me out mentally that my shopping gage has gone all the way down. In todays world of consumption vs conservation, I am always testing out new ways to curb those tendencies.
Most of you may already own and use a Pinterest account. If you’re a planner like myself, you might use Pinterest in the ways that I do. If you aspire to curate your own minimalist wardrobe, try out these suggestions and let me know what you think. Thanks for stopping by.
