HOW TO ADD MINIMALIST DESIGN ELEMENTS TO YOUR HOME
Today’s blog post will be all about interior design! I’ve mentioned previously about one of my favorite interior design styles being Wabi Sabi. My home isn’t cut and dry Wabi Sabi, but there are some earthy modern elements. I suggest you spend time creating a mood board of design styles and items that are appealing to you. Here are 3 key elements that help create a minimalist style interior.

LESS CLUTTER
Now being real, my house doesn’t look like this 50% of the time. For blog post sake I have tidied up and did some light cleaning. Paying attention to the clutter in your home is definitely a must. It’s one of the first things people notice, besides the scent. When you have less things displayed, it’s easier to keep your space neater. I recommend buying pieces that are functional and space-saving. For example a glass coffee table, with the ability to see through to the floor creates visual space. Previously, we had a circular solid wood table which took up a a lot of space and made the center of the living room appear smaller. Investing in smart storage is definitely the way to go. Chests, cabinets, and tables that can hide the clutter at a moments notice are great for small living spaces.
2 MAIN COLORS, 1 ACCENT METAL
Everyone is not a fan of neutrals and not every minimalist space has to lack color. You may choose two colors that mesh well together within the space. I’ve chosen white and beige for my living room. My accent metal is brushed nickel, which is featured throughout the home. Adding living plants can help to bring life and color to the space. Working with a few colors keeps everything minimal and coordinated. You could also go tonal, by choosing one color and using various shades.
ACCENT LIGHTING AND TEXTURES
To avoid your space becoming cold and uninviting, be sure to utilize textures and warm lighting. Textures bring back the warmth within the space. In the photo above you can see I’ve added knitted blankets on every couch and textured curtains to the windows. I also have two lamps with smart bulbs installed, that can increase or decrease the brightness. If you take a look at the back wall where the TV is, there is a wooden brick wallpaper applied. This helps add dimension to the living room, otherwise it would just be four blank white walls.
Those are just three elements that I’ve used to create a Minimalist home. There are a plethora of other tricks i’ve used to create my specific design aesthetic.
